Andre De Grasse to Make His Third Consecutive Appearance at Harry Jerome International Track Classic

By Adam Kopet

Andre De Grasse will compete for the third straight year at the Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome International Track Classic, according to meet organizers.

New this year to the Harry Jerome is the Canada-China Sprint Challenge, which will consist of men's and women's 100, 200 and 400 meters as well as both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. 10 men and 10 women will be named to both the Canadian and Chinese teams for the event. De Grasse is likely to compete in both the 100 meters and the 4x100 relay.

De Grasse brought home a silver and two bronze medals from the 2016 Olympics in the 100 and 200 meters and the 4x100 relay. However, he has missed several big meets since then. He injured his hamstring in the week before the 2017 IAAF World Outdoor Championships, forcing him to withdraw. He also missed the 2018 indoor season and last month's Commonwealth Games.

Despite the injury, De Grasse has now made his outdoor debut, his first race since he suffered the hamstring injury last year. He finished fourth in the elite 100 at the 109th Drake Relays, running 10.15. It was his fastest season opener ever. Next on De Grasse's schedule is the 200 at Friday's Doha Diamond League meeting and the 100 at the Shanghai Diamond League meeting a week later.

The Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome International Track Classic is scheduled for June 26-27 at Swangard in Burnaby, British Columbia, just west of Vancouver.
